Entry requirements
Requirements for admission to the BA in Community Studies (online) Program include:

  • official college transcripts from all institutions attended whether you are seeking to transfer credit or not
  • 60 or more transferable academic credits from an accredited college or university
  • a cumulative grade-point average of 2.5 or higher
  • academic recommendation letter (from a school-based counselor and/or teacher)
  • an essay
  • application fee ($60)

To apply, go to the UMass Boston undergraduate application page. Select "Community Studies" as your major and "Transfer" as your admission type. After you submit your application, you will receive notice from the Admissions Office that includes a PIN for checking on your application status online.

After Acceptance
Once admitted, you will receive an official letter of acceptance from the university.

The Director of Community Studies will send you an electronic packet that includes a letter welcoming you to the program, an explanation of the registration process, your course schedule for the semester, and other pertinent information.

Financial Aid

The program has been approved for financial aid. The first step in applying for financial aid is to file a FAFSA form. You may access FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov. (The school codes that you might need for UMass Boston are: CEEB Code: 3924; Title IV School Code: 002222) For more information about financial aid, you may also contact the university's Financial Aid Office.
