ADVISING
A. Faculty Advisement Committee
Years I – II
During the first three years of the program, student advisement will be handled by the Faculty Advisement Committee. Once a semester the committee will schedule a group advisement session for all students. During this time, LIUS faculty will help students understand specific program options and choices (electives, special certification options, possible dissertation topics, internship ideas) and will explain and clarify confusing points of program policy.
B. Dissertation Advising
Years III - IV
Upon completion of the Qualifying Paper, students should begin seeking a dissertation advisor. This is the faculty member who will chair the dissertation committee and guide students through their dissertation proposal, research, writing and defense. (For more about the dissertation and the role of the dissertation advisor, please see section VII. Dissertation Committee.)
C. LIUS Student Advisory Committee
Each student cohort will select two cohort members to serve as their representatives on the LIUS Student Advisory Committee. The committee will meet once a semester with the Faculty Advisement Committee to inform the LIUS faculty of any program related concerns, questions, suggestions or feedback their cohorts may wish to share with the faculty.
