Dr. Areford has taught ancient and medieval art history at Northwestern University, DePaul University, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and the University of North Carolina Greensboro. He joined the faculty of U Mass Boston in Fall 2003. His teaching responsibilities include the survey of western art history from ancient to medieval, focused courses on early and late medieval art, northern Renaissance art, and an intermediate seminar on images of the body. In addition, in the Spring 2006 semester, Dr. Areford introduced a survey of gay and lesbian visual culture.
