Teaching
Prof. Carlon teaches courses in Latin language, Latin Pedagogy and Classical civilizations, including Greek and Roman Civilization, Sport and Spectacle in Greece and Rome, Methods of Teaching the Latin Language, The History of Latin Literature, Latin Letters and beginning Latin.  She is the chief organizer of the Conventiculum Bostoniense and the department contact for Latin teachers and programs.

Research and Publications
Prof. Carlon¹s research focuses on the evolution of Roman social systems, particularly the redefinition of elite identity in the late Republic and early Empire.  Her book Pliny’s Women: Constructing Virtue and Creating Identity in the Roman World is forthcoming from Cambridge University Press in June 2009.  Her current project centers on semiotic shifts in the language of elite self-promotion.
