We offer undergraduates an English major and minor and are home to programs in Creative Writing, Professional Writing, Technical Writing and Irish Studies. Here you will find a rich array of courses and subjects of study: from freshman composition to advanced courses in the English major, from survey courses on Asian American Literature to fiction writing workshops, from general education courses on Technology, on Consciousness, and on the Art of Poetry through seminars on topics as various as the Philosophy of Composition, the Black Presence in American Literature, and Romantic Literature.
Students will always find interesting and unusual special topics courses that change from year to year. Recently, undergraduates have been able to study Law and Literature, Melancholy in Nineteenth-Century Literature, the Harlem Renaissance, Memory and World War II, and Postcolonial Fiction.
Our department is also home to the Freshman Composition Program.
