Vincent Cannato

Ph.D., Columbia University

I was born and raised in the suburbs of New York City and received my B.A. from Williams College and my Ph.D. from Columbia University. I came to the University of Massachusetts Boston in the fall of 2002. I am currently an associate editor of Encyclopedia of the American Presidency, Second Edition and an associate editor of The Encyclopedia of New York City, Second Edition.

In addition to my academic work, I have worked as the managing editor of The Public Interest, a co-producer of the PBS documentary “The First Measured Century,” a political aide to Bret Schundler, the former mayor of Jersey City, New Jersey, a speechwriter at the Department of Housing and Urban Development, and a tour guide of New York City for Big Onion Walking Tours.

20th century political history, American urban history and urban politics, immigration and ethnic history, and the history of New York City
