| 6 August 2009 | Prof. Heike Schotten Wins Prestigious Award. Professor Heike Schotten has been awarded the Okin/Young Award for the best article in feminist theory published in a refereed journal in the preceding year. She won this award for her article, “Nietzsche/Pentheus: The Last Disciple of Dionysus and Queer Fear of the Feminine.” The award, named after Susan Okin and Iris Marion Young, pioneers in political and feminist theory, is sponsored by three sections of the American Political Science Association: Women and Politics Research, Foundations of Political Thought, and the Women’s Caucus for Political Science. Professor Schotten will be presented the award at the next APSA conference in Toronto. |
| June 2009 | Dominique Powell, PolSci '09, Wins Prestigious JFK Award. Political Science major Dominique Powell was the winner of the university-wide JFK award for outstanding performance in academics and service. As the JFK awardee, she was the student speaker at the 2009 commencement.

Divided Cities: Common and Uncommon: A free public event hosted by the Moakley Chair for Peace and Reconciliation. Part of the FORUM FOR CITIES IN TRANSITION. Thursday, April 16 at 7:30 pm, Campus Center. Cities are the epicenters of conflicts in divided societies. How do such cities continue to provide citizens with the basic needs and services across religious/ethnic/racial/cultural chasms? How do they emerge from conflict and engage in the long, hard transition to normalcy? Mayors and senior officials from Derry/Londonderry (NORTHEN IRELAND), Mitrovica (KOSOVO/SERBIA), Nicosia (CYPRUS), and Kirkuk (IRAQ), and government officials from Belfast (NORTHERN IRELAND) join with Boston to speak of how they deal with normal problems in extremely abnormal circumstances. |
