Scholarships
- The Knapp Scholarship in Political Science, given to a student for academic performance who has completed at least three political science courses. The 2009 winners are John Ward and Alena Sullivan. Congratulations!
- The Rusty Simonds Award in Political Science, given to an outstanding junior or senior with an interest in political theory and in pursuing an advanced degree: Deadline June 1, 2009.
Graduation Awards
- Roger Feinstein Award: This Award is given to a graduating senior who has not only performed very well in the Major as a whole, but also has distinguished herself or himself in Urban Politics, Public Policy, and/or Environmental Policy. The award is a book, and the winner is acknowledged at the Honors Convocation and the Political Science Department’s Senior Dinner.
- Richard Landry Award: This Award is given to a graduating senior who has not only performed very well in the Major as a whole, but also has distinguished himself or herself in Political Theory. The award is a book, and the winner is acknowledged at the Honors Convocation and the Political Science Department’s Senior Dinner.
- Maurizio Vannicelli Award: This Award is given to a graduating senior who has not only performed very well in the Political Science major or the International Relations minor, but also has distinguished herself or himself in International Relations. The award is a book, and the winner is acknowledged at the Honors Convocation and the Political Science Department’s Senior Dinner.
Internships
Political Science majors may earn credits in an approved internship program. To qualify for credit, an internship must be related in some meaningful way to politics, government, public service, or other facets of civic life. For further information, students should:

Students with an interest in internships should visit the Cooperative Education Office (M/3/625) for information and guidance about other programs. Internship Programs at UMB Career Services can point to numerous internship possibilities aside from the placements specifically offered through the Political Science Department. The American Political Science Association also has internship information and resources for political science majors.
