Sociology
Students declaring a major in Sociology must meet the following requirements:
- 12+ U Mass Boston credits
- Overall GPA of 2.50 or higher
- Completion of SOCIOL 101
Students meeting the above requirements will be accepted into the major after a review of the unofficial transcript and a meeting with a Sociology faculty advisor or the Sociology department chair. Faculty advisors may be chosen from the Advising Sheet posted outside Wh-04-012. Office hours and office locations are listed. Bring your unofficial transcript and a Declaration of Major form to the meeting.
Students who do not meet the above requirements cannot declare the major until they have attained the necessary credentials. Exceptional circumstances may be brought before the Sociology Department's Declaration Committee. Please inquire in Wh-04-012 for details.
Social Psychology
There are no minimum GPA or course requirements for admission to the Social Psychology major. Students who wish to declare the major in Social Psychology should schedule an informational meeting with Professor Reef Youngreen by emailing their available times to reef.youngreen@umb.edu. Following the meeting, the Sociology department chairperson will sign your Declaration of Major form, which you will then submit to One Stop.
Criminal Justice
Students declaring a major in Criminal Justice must meet the following requirements:
- 12+ U Mass Boston credits
- Overall GPA of 2.50 or higher
- Completion of SOCIOL 101 and CRMJUS/SOCIOL 262L
Students meeting these requirements will be accepted into the major after meeting with Alison Moll, the Criminal Justice Advisor, to review the transcript, discuss requirements, and obtain her signature on the Declaration of Major form. You may schedule an appointment by emailing your availability to alison.moll@umb.edu, or by signing up for a specific meeting time on the schedule posted at Wh-04-014.
