Amani El Jack
Dr. Amani El Jack is Assistant Professor in the Department of Women’s Studies at the University of Massachusetts Boston. She holds a Ph.D. in Women’s Studies from York University, Canada; an MA in Political Sciences from the American University in Cairo, Egypt; and a B.Sc. (Honors) in Political Sciences from University of Khartoum, Sudan.

Dr. El Jack research and teaching traverse socio-economic, political and cultural interrogation of the gendered fields of development studies; globalization; forced migration; militarization/war; post-conflict reconstruction processes; peace building and human security. Some current studies focus on gender relations of development-induced displacement; Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) of ex-combatants and transitional justice, with specific emphasis on Africa.

Prior to joining UMass Boston, Dr. El Jack has had the privilege of engaging in various Canadian and international scholarly networks that included research and consultancy work for the Women in Conflict Zones Network (WICZNET) at York University (2006-2007); the International Center for Transitional Justice (ICTJ), New York (May to November 2007); Project on Participative Social Assessment of Darfur and Southern Sudan, York University (2006-2007); the Globalization of Protracted Refugee Situations (GPRS) in long-term refugee camps, York University (2005-2006); Landmine Action, Ottawa/UK (2004–2005); the Institute of Development Studies at Sussex University, UK (2003); and the Bonn International Centre for Conversion, Germany (2001-2002). Dr. El Jack has research affiliation with the Department of Women’s Studies at Ahfad University for Women in Sudan. Dr. El Jack work for these research institutions entailed in-depth research, policy engagement and collaboration with various partners at the local and international levels.
