Professor Ward joined the UMass Boston faculty in 1974. He received his PhD from Harvard University in 1975 and his AM from The University of Michigan in 1970. His primary teaching interests include ancient,
medieval, and modern political philosophy, religion and politics, contemporary political ideologies, and American politics. His research interests include modem and contemporary European political philosophy,
philosophy of social science, and contemporary political science.

Professor Ward has published Heidegger's Political Thinking (1995) and Language, Form, and Inquiry: Arthur F. Bentley's Philosophy of Social Science (1984), both with the University of Massachusetts Press, and has edited Political Science 251 Ancient and Medieval Political Thought (2004), a collection of ancient and medieval political philosophy texts published by Thomson Press. He is writing books on the political philosophies of Leo Strauss and Hegel. Professor Ward has served twice as chair of the Political Science Department, worked on planning committees for the McCormack Graduate School of Policy and Global Studies, and has served on the executive councils of the Northeastern Political Science Association and the New England Political Science Association.
