Additional Information
Mark Schafer has designed and led a variety of translation workshops, including a two-day workshop for Spanish teachers on how to use translation in the high school Spanish classroom, with Diego Mansilla, and workshops on literary translation at the Mass Poetry Festival (2011) and the Skagit River Poetry Festival in LaConner Washington (2001, 2010). In 2009, he was awarded, through City Lights Publishers, a grant from the Spanish Ministry of Culture for his translation of Belén Gopegui’s La escala de los mapas. He has given bilingual readings with a number of the authors he has translated, including a reading with the Mexican poet David Huerta at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. (2009).
