Robert Sauer is a native Bostonian and a graduate of Boston College, where he earned the B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees. He has been a lecturer at the University of Massachusetts, Boston since 1992, where he teaches a variety of courses. His current course list includes surveys in Western civilization and world history and upper-level electives in military history and international terrorism. His research interests include military history, global diplomacy, international terrorism, and local history.

He is also the author of <i>Holy Trinity German Catholic Church of Boston: A Way of Life</i>, a history of the only national German Roman Catholic church in New England.
