Requirements
Majors must demonstrate intermediate proficiency in Spanish and/or Portuguese. This may be achieved by taking the Department Placement Test or successfully completing the language sequence through the 202 level.
Students who wish to take advanced courses in Portuguese must demonstrate the requisite level of language proficiency.
To advance student success and development, students are required to take:
- four language courses
- three required courses
- four advanced courses at the 300 level
- one advanced course at the 400 level
NOTE: Majors and non-majors in the Teacher Education Program should contact the department for advising on special requirements for certification for teaching Spanish.
Majors in this track who are participating in the Teacher Education Program may, with departmental approval, make the following substitution: The Teaching Practicum may replace two advanced courses at the 300 level.
Courses designated as "Span" are taught in Spanish, unless otherwise indicated.
No courses may be taken for this track on a pass/fail basis.
Students in this track are strongly encouraged to study abroad.
