Perspectives on Composition: History, Theory, Pedagogy
Description:
This course is designed as an introduction to the field of composition studies for students in the composition and literature concentrations alike. We will investigate the rise of English as a discipline in the nineteenth century with a focus on why writing instruction became concentrated in the freshman year. Understanding this history and politics will put us in the position of developing an informed critique of freshman question: what are the alternatives?
