Women, Politics, and Policy
Description:
This course exposes students to the field of women and politics in U.S. American politics. It investigates what a gender perspective adds to evaluations and understandings of politics and policy as well as ways in which gender influences policy outcomes, political perspectives, and political experiences. Collective action for, and on the behalf of, groups of women is a major focus as is the perspective of women of various races, social classes, ethnicities, and sexual orientations. The course covers: baseline trends and debates related to women and politics; gender movements and womens organizing from a historical perspective; political participation and public opinion; and, public policy.
