Gerontology, BA

In our aging society, the importance of understanding the process of aging and the circumstances of aging people is continually growing.

About the Gerontology Major

The undergraduate Gerontology major at the College of Public and Community Service has a long record of meeting the needs for knowledge and service in the gerontology field by helping students establish or augment their credentials and pursue rewarding careers built around issues related to aging. This program provides an understanding of aging-network processes through direct service, action research, internships, public policy, and legislative advocacy for older adults.

Gerontology graduates can go on to become administrators, managers, caregivers, advocates, and peer supporters, as well as go on to graduate study.

Gerontology Undergraduate Course Work

The Gerontology curriculum is developmental, introducing students to the discipline, knowledge, and skills needed for professional success. It is designed for students beginning their careers, as well as for those already working in the field or in other fields. A multi-generational cohort model allows diverse groups of students to progress together as a learning community.
