Premedical Study at UMass Boston
Welcome and thank you for your interest in premedical and healthcare-related careers. We use the term premedical to include general medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, and optometry. We offer the following two courses of study; (1) Premedical Program of Study for Undergraduate Students and (2) the Post-Baccalaureate Premedical Certificate Program (for students who have already earned a bachelor's degree or will have earned one prior to beginning the premedical program). These programs are offered through the College of Science and Mathematics in partnership with the University Advising Center, which is responsible for administering these programs.
Medical schools are similar in that all require you to complete an undergraduate program of premedical study. At the same time, most medical schools have small differences in the premedical courses they require you to complete. For example, one medical school might require a course in biochemistry, while another school might instead require a more detailed course in biology, etc.
So it is important, whenever possible, to identify the medical schools you plan to apply to, and then work with the premedical advisor in the University Advising Center to plan a course of premedical study that meets your needs. For program details, please visit Premedical at UMass Boston.
