Welcome to the Graduate College of Education (GCE) at UMass Boston. Working in collaboration with school districts, local colleges and universities, and community groups, GCE provides many opportunities for learning how to enhance learning in urban environments.
GCE programs provide direct educational services, such as tutoring and mentoring for English language learners at the elementary and secondary levels; professional preparation programs to educate future teachers, school counselors and psychologists, school and higher education administrators; and theoretical and policy research about individual and organizational learning in urban education settings.
GCE, with its urban mission and its location at a global crossroads, fosters students’ development of intercultural, political, interpersonal, competencies while preparing them for professional work in fields such as early childhood education, science and math education, special education, teaching the vision-impaired, rehabilitation counseling, mental health counseling, leadership in urban schools, and many others. At the same time, through its research and engagement in the Greater Boston community, GCE faculty, professional staff, and students make distinctive contributions to the local, national, and international practice and understanding of urban education.
