Project ALERTA is an academic enrichment program that strengthens and supports the education of motivated and talented 3rd - 6th grade Latino students and English Language Learners in Boston Public Schools, helping participants to develop the confidence, drive, and academic skills necessary to succeed in elementary school and enter a college preparatory middle or high school program. The ultimate vision of Project ALERTA is that in the future, all Latino students and English Learners in BPS will have the opportunity to attend college.

This year, Project ALERTA is providing services to approximately 140 students at six elementary schools in Boston. We continue to provide services to the Agassiz and Hennigan Elementary Schools in Jamaica Plain, the Blackstone Elementary School in the South End, and the Marshall Elementary School in Dorchester. In 2007-2008, Project ALERTA returned to one of our original pilot sites, the Hurley Elementary School in the South End, and this year, we began programming at the Hernandez K-8 in Roxbury. At each school, students attend ALERTA for three hours a week before or after school. The program runs from October through the end of May. Each school studies a different curriculum module, with all schools focusing heavily on oral and written English language proficiency.
