Administrative Leadership Experiences

December 2008 – Current: Associate Provost and Director of International and Transnational Affairs: University of Massachusetts Boston (UMass Boston), MA, USA. Facilitating the efforts of UMass-Boston, its colleges, centers and institutes as they develop academic and research programs with international foci; increasing the availability of study abroad programs for both students and faculty; streamlining administrative processes for international students; and collaborating with all members of the campus community in enriching the international elements of teaching, research and services.

[Prior to joining UMB in August 2007, Dr. Hyun was full professor at Kent State University leading its higher education administration Ph.D. and Master’s programs in the concentration area of internationalization of higher education institutions and the certificate program focusing on developing and implementing administration of international academic and students affairs. She also taught this particular topic in conjunction with European Union’s Bologna process in Florence, Italy. In addition, as a founding member of Florida Gulf Coast University, she was a member of creating the institution’s office of international affairs and its policy on faculty international/transnational research activities.  During the higher education administration executive training OALA (Ohio Academic Leadership Academy) administrated by the Ohio Inter-University Council in 2006-2007, Dr. Hyun also had hands-on administrative experiences with university provosts and academic deans related to leadership responsibility in institutional transformation for students’ academic success.  Dr. Hyun was a selective participant of the American Council on Education’s (ACE) Office of Women in Higher Education Leadership Forum in 2007.]
