The Department of Curriculum and Instruction houses three distinct programs: Teacher Education, Critical and Creative Thinking and Instructional Design.  Critical and Creative Thinking is a interdisciplinary program that provides its students with the knowledge, tools, experience and support to become constructive, reflective agents of change in education, work, social movements, sciencc and ie and the creative arts.  Instructional Design addresses the design and delivery of instructional materials.  Teacher Education offers undergraduate, master’s and post-master’s programs leading to initial and professional licensure.  All of the Department’s Teacher preparation programs are fully accredited by the Massachusetts Department of Education and the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education.  Critical and Creative Thinking and Instructional Design also have master’s and certificate programs.

Goals and Objectives:

Consistent with the missions of the Graduate College of Education and the University, the Department is committed to providing students with the knowledge, skills and dispositions necessary to promote professional excellence, the understanding that culture and world view shape meaning in every aspect of individual and group life, the ability to engage in critical and creative inquiry and in continuous learning, and the recognition of the instructional advantages of new technologies.
