Dr. Ray F. Shurtleff is the Educational Administration Program Manager for the Graduate College of Education at University of Massachusetts Boston, where he also teaches a personnel/human resource administration course. Dr. Shurtleff has been a middle school and high school teacher, a METCO Coordinator, a high school administrator in Cambridge MA for 22 years, Director of Human Resources for the Newton Public Schools (1993-2000) and Director of the Human Resources for the Boston Public Schools (2000-2003).
Since January 2004, Dr. Shurtleff has been an Educational Consultant, with a focus on human resource management issues and has served as an Interim Human Resources Director for the Boston Renaissance Public Charter School and the Fall River Public Schools, in addition to consulting work with other Massachusetts school districts. He is currently the Senior Consultant for EDCOSearch, an executive search service of the Education Collaborative of Greater Boston, Inc., and is also a member of the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s State Review Panel for Commonwealth Priority Schools.
Since 2003, Dr. Shurtleff has also taught graduate courses in personnel/human resources administration at the Boston College’s Lynch School of Education, Bridgewater State College’s Educational Leadership Program, and Cambridge College’s School of Education, in addition to the University of Massachusetts Boston Leadership in Education program. Dr. Shurtleff has been active in personnel/human resource organizations, including the American Association for Employment in Education, American Association for School Personnel Administrators, New England Association for Employment in Education, and the Massachusetts Association for School Personnel Administrators. Dr. Shurtleff has been a member of the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s Educational Personnel Advisory Council since 2000, and was the Chair from 2002 to 2008.
Dr. Shurtleff received the Emeritus Member Award of the American Association for Employment in Education in November, 2003 and the Dean Arthur Herbert Wilde Society Alumni Award from the Boston University School of Education in May, 2002.
