The capstone requirement
For the capstone requirement, the student prepares a 30-page research paper, under the supervision of an individual History Department faculty member, on a topic of the student’s choice. The paper must include a curricular section indicating how the topic or subject area could be taught to secondary school students. The student then defends the capstone paper before a three-member faculty committee consisting of the capstone supervisor and two other faculty members, to be approved by the Graduate Program Director. At least two members of the defense committee must be from the history department. After making corrections and revisions, the student submits one final copy of the capstone paper to the department for its files.
