The MA in History Program

This description includes information on the History MA Program, which has three tracks:

In addition to the three tracks, it describes the degree requirements, the rules and regulations of the History Department, and the graduate program faculty.

Students and prospective students should consult the Graduate Bulletin, which provides information on general university policies and regulations. A brief introduction to the structure of graduate studies at the University of Massachusetts Boston may help you decide where to go for specific services or information. Although many offices and people at the university are involved with different aspects of graduate studies, graduate students will find that they deal most frequently with their course instructors and the graduate program director in their department. The graduate program director is the graduate student advisor, supervises graduate course registration, and is the first person who should be contacted about any questions or problems regarding the program.

A graduate committee made up of five faculty members in the History Department administers the history graduate program. This committee votes on applications for admission, approves thesis proposals, and sets program policies.

Graduate Admissions (617) 287-6400, located on the 2nd Floor of the Quinn Administration Building, receives all admissions applications.

Finally, the dean of Graduate Studies (617-287-5700) is the chief administrative officer for all graduate programs at the university. The dean and the University Graduate Council oversee all programs and set university-wide policies with regard to graduate studies.
