Professor Jan Mutchler is a Fellow of the Gerontological Society of America (Behavioral and Social Sciences Section) and serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Aging & Social Policy and Research on Aging.
Recent publications include "Social Dimensions of Aging: Race and Ethnicity" (a chapter in Handbook of the Sociology of Aging, with Jeff Burr); Race Differences in the Relationship between Formal Volunteering and Hypertension: Results from the Health and Retirement Study” (in Journal of Gerontology: Social Sciences, with Jane Tavares and Jeff Burr); “Hispanic Residential Segregation and Immigrant Living Arrangements in Later Life” (in Population Research and Policy Review, with Jeff Burr and Kirsten Gerst); “The Prevalence of Sensory Deficits, Functional Limitations, and Disability among Older Southeast Asians in the United States” (in Journal of Aging and Health, with Mai See Yang and Jeff Burr) and "Poverty and Material Hardship in Grandparent Headed Households" (in Journal of Marriage and Family, with Lindsey Baker).
Professor Mutchler currently serves as co-principal investigator on two grants ("Latino End-of-Life Care" and “Developing a Resiliency Program for Medical Interpreters in Cancer Care”) both funded by the National Institutes of Health/National Cancer Institute, part of the UMass Boston/Dana Farber Harvard Cancer Center U54 Partnership. She is also co-principal investigator for the National Elder Economic Security Standard Index, a measure of economic security developed at the Gerontology Institute in collaboration with Wider Opportunities for Women.
