Academics

About the Department

Programs   We offer interdisciplinary, award winning graduate programs that link theories, concepts and research methods based on social, behavioral and policy sciences in the study of aging. We are the second university, worldwide, to offer a PhD in Gerontology. Together with the Gerontology Institute we are one of the leading centers for the academic study of social gerontology.

Faculty   Our faculty are actively engaged in applied and policy research in gerontology. In addition to strong academic and teaching backgrounds, faculty members hold key positions in major organizations in the aging network.

Students   Our students have richly diverse backgrounds and goals. Some are mid-career professionals while others enter our graduate programs upon completion of undergraduate studies. Our students are diverse geographically. We admit a significant number of international students to our programs both online and on campus. Our students’ passion to do work in support of, and with the aging population defines them as a group.
