How much will the graduate certificate program cost?

The graduate certificate is 5 courses each worth 3 credits for a total of 15 credits. For a list of the most current fees, see http://uc.umb.edu/moreinfo/registration/fees/ Make sure you are looking at the graduate level online course fees (unless you are taking a face to face class), all the service fees and any other associated fees, and, for new students, a one-time new student fee.

I already have an initial license in another field. Once I complete the certificate, can I get an Instructional Technology license as an additional license?

The courses in the graduate certificate cover all six competencies required by the Massachusetts Department of Education (MA DOE). Unless your initial license is in a field for all levels (K-12), you will also need to take a course in human development. EDCG644 satisfies this requirement. For the most up-to-date information about MA DOE’s requirements for an additional license, see https://www4.doemass.org/elar/licensurehelp/LicenseRequirementsCriteriaPostControl.ser?COMMAND.next=next and scroll down to "Educators earning a new license in a new field at a new level." Upon completion, students apply directly to DESE for the license.

You can transfer in up to two classes from another university as long as they match courses required for the certificate. Send copies of the syllabi for the courses you want transferred to the coordinator of the certificate.

When do I meet with a program advisor?

As soon as you have been accepted into the program you must meet with me, Donna DeGennaro, the program’s advisor. I strongly encourage you to also meet with me if you are completing courses in the program before you officially apply. Together we’ll map out the sequence of courses you wish to take on a Learning Plan. You and I will both retain a signed copy of the Learning Plan to document the courses you complete and to approve any changes that are required. You may reach me at: Donna.DeGennaro@umb.edu.

Is a field component required?

EDCG610 requires observations in a K-12 classroom setting. SPEG684 requires assignments that must be completed within a K-12 classroom.
