Educational Change in China and the United States
China, the world’s most populous country with 5000 years of history, has undergone tremendous transformation in the last 30 years, becoming a more open society with a dazzling rate of economic growth. The size and success of the Chinese system of education is just one intriguing aspect of this country. "What’s going on in China" has become, in the words of one scholar, "the biggest story on the planet at the moment."
This Comparative Study Tour will provide students with opportunities to explore the educational system and education reforms in China. As the Chinese continue to improve their economic, political and social foundations, they also look to strengthen their educational systems. Our goal is to learn about Chinese educational programs and reforms and to compare them with the American experience. In addition to daily classes, participants will visit various schools and cultural sites in Beijing and participate in China’s New Education Annual Conference (in Inner Mongolia, China). American students will interact and share experiences and reflections with Chinese educators who will join them in this tour.
No prior knowledge of the Chinese language is required. We encourage graduate students and practicing educators to apply.
The program is open to applicants from the College of Education and Human Development, other universities and colleges, and to teachers and administrators from the Boston Public Schools and surrounding districts.
