Requirements for Art Major (BA)

General degree and General Education requirements

Art Major Courses

  1. An art major shall consist of a minimum of 12 courses, including the following:
    1. Two of the following courses:
    2. One (1) art history course at the 300 level.
    3. Three (3) studio courses in two media (photography, drawing, video, printmaking, painting, digital imagery, and 3-D). One of the three must be at the 300 level.
    4. Three (3) additional courses at the 300 or 400 level.
    5. Three (3) art electives.
  2. At least six (6) art courses, including at least three at the 300 level, must be taken at UMass Boston.
  3. No more than one art course taken pass/fail may be counted toward the major.
  4. Independent study (ART 478-479), field work/internships (ART 488-489), and honors projects (ART 491-492) may not be counted toward the minimum 12 courses required for the major.
