The Biology Major and the Biotechnology TrackThe discipline of Biology encompasses enormous diversity -- animal behavior, botany, cell biology, ecology, evolutionary biology, genetics, microbiology, molecular biology, and physiology. Please see the requirements for the biology major and the biotechnology track. Biotechnology trackUMass Boston offers a biotechnology track within the Biology major. Students successfully completing the track earn a BS in Biology while their transcripts will reflect this specialization in biotechnology. Biotechnology utilizes molecular and cellular biological processes to make commercial products in a wide range of fields, from agriculture, health care, and organic chemistry, to environmental remediation. The biotechnology track within the biology major is designed primarily for students who wish to major in biology as a means to careers in research and development at biotechnology companies. This track also provides training for work in university or medical research laboratories, or for graduate school in biochemistry, molecular biology, or cell biology. |
