The Minor

Students majoring in another discipline may minor in chemistry. Chemistry minors take both elementary and advanced courses that expose them to a variety of areas in the field, and to both theoretical and laboratory work.

Students wishing to minor in chemistry take CHEM 103, 104, 253, and 254. These basic courses are prerequisite for all of the department's advanced courses.

Minors then take one of the following pairs of courses: CHEM 311 and 313; or CHEM 312 and 314; or BIOCHM 383 and 385; or CHEM 369 and 379; or CHEM 351 and one other relevant advanced course (300 or above), to be approved by the department. Students wishing to minor in chemistry should first discuss their plans with a member of the faculty. No courses taken on a pass/fail basis can be counted toward the minor.
