Academics Undergraduate Classical Studies Requirements

Classical Studies Major

Below are the requirements for the BA in classical studies. If you are intested in classical studies minor, please see the page describing the minor and its requirements. For classical languages, please see the description of the classical languages major for the requirements for that major and its minor.

I. Classics 281 (Greek Civilization) and Classics 282 (Roman Civilization). With departmental approval, History 301 and/or History 302 may be counted toward this requirement.

II. Six additional classical studies (Clsics) courses. Courses in Greek or Latin beyond those required (in III below) may be substituted for up to two of the required classical studies courses. With Classics Department approval, one of these courses may be from another department.

III. Two semesters of Latin or of Greek at a level appropriate to the student's preparation, in accordance with posted departmental guidelines.

IV. At least three courses taken to fulfill the major requirement must be at the 300 level.
