Academics : DSP

Welcome to DSP

Welcome to the Web site for UMass Boston's Directions for Student Potential Program (DSP). Our course is an intensive summer program designed to strengthen academic skills for students entering the College of Arts and Sciences. Students who are admitted to the program must successfully complete all coursework to receive status as degree-seeking undergraduates.

Students who enroll in DSP have varied educational experience, but may fit into the following demographic profiles: high school graduates who fall short of meeting admissions criteria, GED students or returning students who have been away from an education environment for a number of years.

Our faculty and staff have extensive experience working with students to prepare them for the academic requirements of UMass Boston. Look over our Program Description page to see an outline of the curriculum and regulations of the course.

And the DSP program is not just about academic preparation. Students find that the social challenges of university life are eased by the six-week preview of campus facilities and student responsibilities. Coming to know a diverse and open academic community gives students increased confidence and enthusiasm for the many challenges that lie ahead.
