Accommodations for Students with Disabilites
If you have a disability and want accomodations to support your completion of the WPR, you should talk with the disabilities advisor at the Ross Center for Disability Services. You must register with the Ross Center no later that two weeks before the date of the exam. Accommodations are offered only if students are registered with the Ross Center and if they are taking the timed-essay examination. Students with disabilities are strongly urged to take the portfolio option because it is accommodation that allows you most control over the WPE and it allows us to provide a tutor to help you complete the WPE. If you are interested in working with a tutor on a portfolio, please call the WPO.
Dates for the WPE: The timed-essay examination is offered two times a year, in early January and early June. The timed-essay exam is offered over a two day period, in the morning, and in the evening, depending upon which reading set you chose. The individual exam times are arranged and the accommodation in this option is that you receive one and a half hours of extra time.
The Registration procedures:
The timed-essay: You register for the timed-essay after you choose a reading set. This is important because each reading set will have a different time and location; check the Schedule of Courses for the exact dates and times. You will register for a particular reading set that is give at a particular time. Once you have done this, contact the Ross Center to make arrangements with them. During a four and a half hour period, you write an essay of eight-to-twelve paragraphs. Once you are in the examination room, you will be give two questions about the set of readings that you have chosen and prepared in advance. Pick one question and write your essay.
The portfolio option: This option is given four times a year: January; March; June; and October. Please check the Schedule of Courses or the menu option on our homepage for the exact dates and times. If you select the Portfolio option, you must bring it to the WPO (CC 2/2100) by the specified dates and times.
