Theatre Arts Major

The Department of Performing Arts offers a Bachelor of Arts major in Theatre Arts. Theatre Arts is concerned with the lively art of theatre in all its myriad forms, including play production, design, and performance; dramatic literature; playwriting; dance; broadcasting; and comedy. The UMass Boston major in Theatre Arts provides knowledge, ability, and experience for undergraduates to pursuer further study or training, to enter the expanding world of regional theatre, to teach and direct theatre in schools, and to become active members of the theatre community.

ThrArt 111 (Traditions of Western Drama)
ThrArt 123 (Stagecraft I) or
ThrArt 223 (Stagecraft II)
ThrArt 226 (Play Reading)
ThrArt 230 (Workshop in Drama) (twice)
ThrArt 235 (Introduction to Directing I) or
ThrArt 236 (Introduction to Acting)

Two courses in dramatic literature, one of which may be taken from the offerings of another department; three advanced courses in theatre arts (300 level or above)

In all, a minimum of eleven semester courses in theatre arts is required for graduation.
