Meet the Staff
Kunthary Thai-Johnson, Director
Kunthary Thai-Johnson received her BS in computer science and human services from Simmons College and her M.Ed. at UMass Boston. Kunthary began her professional career at UMass Boston in 1999. At the University, she served as director of the Upward Bound Program and director of the Admission Guaranteed Program before becoming the director of the Health Careers Opportunity Program. Prior to working at UMass Boston, she served as a social worker for the Department of Social Services (now the Department of Children and Families). In addition, Kunthary is also a member of the Massachusetts Educational Opportunity Programs, New England Educational Opportunity Programs and is on the BPS Thrive in 5 Parent Advisory Committee.
Kunthary is a daughter of immigrant parents and is the first in her family to have gone to college and earned a baccalaureate degree. She is a strong believer that education will open doors and 'even-out the playing field' for those who have been underserved. She believes that all students can succeed as long as they are willing to work hard to reach their goals.
