At the conclusion of the community outreach process on the alternative campus plans, the Master Plan Steering Committee reviewed and considered all input and feedback in an effort to develop a recommended preferred campus plan that reflects community support for the following components.

  • Need for new academic buildings
  • More green, open space
  • Better integration with the waterfront and surrounding urban community
  • Taking down the plaza and Science Building
  • Reconfiguring the road network
  • Placing garages on the edges of campus
  • Relocating the running track
  • Locating campus housing near Mt. Vernon St.
  • Greater physical connection with other institutions on Columbia Point

The recommended plan was presented to Chancellor Motley and his Executive staff and was subsequently revised to reflect their guidance and direction.  The Board of Trustees was briefed on the plan on December 14, 2007 and expressed their support for the future campus plan.  (Please click here to view the Chancellor's Presentation)

Over the next year, the University worked with the State Division of Capital Asset Management (DCAM) and the master planning firm Chan Krieger Sieniewicz to further examine the benefits of certain plan components and the feasibility of individual projects. As a result, adjustments were made to the 25-year campus plan framework in winter 2009, while preserving the fundamental components and overall vision of the Master Plan adopted in December 2007.
