The Program
Linguistics explores the nature of language and its role in human affairs. The Linguistics Program aims to provide students with a basic background knowledge of the traditional subfields of linguistics: phonology (the sounds of language), morphology (the shape of words), syntax (the structural organization of the sentence), and semantics (the meanings). Modern linguistics, to which students will be introduced, studies the nature of language and the acquisition of linguistic knowledge.
