Requirements — Theatre and Dance
The Major in Theatre Arts
Required courses for the major in theatre arts include
- THRART 201 (Theatre History; formerly Traditions of Western Drama)
- THRART 123 (Theatre Crafts I; formerly Stagecraft) or THRART 124 (Theatre Crafts II)
- THRART 230 (Workshop in Drama) (twice)
- THRART 236 (Introduction to Acting I)
- Three courses in dramatic literature, one of which should be taken from the offerings of another department; three advanced courses in theatre arts (300 level or above).
In all, a minimum of eleven semester courses in theatre arts is required for graduation.
The Minor in Theatre Arts
- One course from among the following:
- THRART 121 (Styles and Techniques of Comedy)
- THRART 122 (Styles and Techniques of Tragedy)
- THRART 201 (Theatre History)
- One course from among the following:
- THRART 123 (Theatre Crafts I)
- THRART 125 (Speech and Movement)
- THRART 236 (Introduction to Acting I)
- THRART 250 (Introduction to Playwriting)
- THRART 260 (Introduction to Scene Design)
- THRART 261 (Introduction to Costume Design)
- A Dramatic Literature course
- THRART 230 (Workshop in Drama)
- 6. Two courses at the 300-400 level.
In all, a total of six theatre arts courses.
The Minor in Dance
Required courses include
- DANCE 130 (Understanding Dance)
- One course from among the following:
- DANCE 131 (Dance for the Stage)
- DANCE 132 (Ballet I)
