To apply for undergraduate admission to the university, please submit the online admissions application, completing all required fields, which are denoted by an asterisk (*).

 

If you choose not to apply online, you can request printed application materials be mailed to you using the university's information request form or download it.
You should use the online application only if you want to enroll in an undergraduate degree program. If you wish to enter a certificate program or enroll as a non-degree-seeking student, please call our Enrollment Information Service at (617) 287-6000 for information about how to do so.

Instructions for the online application

Admit category

If you have attended college after you completed high school or your secondary education, select transfer as your Admit Category under the Enrollment Information section of the application.

Residency

Before answering the Massachusetts residency question, please carefully read the university's rules governing residency status.

Biographical information

The questions regarding ethnicity and gender under the Biographical Information section are optional. You are not required to respond to these questions. Your response or your lack of response has no bearing on the admission process. The university uses the information obtained through these questions only for the compilation of statistics for the U.S. Department of Education and similar agencies or for its own statistical, demographic profile of the student body.

SAT and ACT scores

If you have been out of high school for more than three years, we will not require you to submit SAT I or ACT test scores. We may, however, require you to provide additional information about yourself, which we will request if necessary.

TOEFL scores

If your native language is not English, you may be asked to demonstrate proficiency in English. You are required to submit a TOEFL score or an SAT II: English Language Placement Test (ELPT). For information about TOEFL contact The TOEFL Program, Box 899, Princeton, NJ 08540, USA. For information about the SAT II visit www.collegeboard.com or speak with your guidance counselor.

College of Public & Community Service

If you are seeking admission to the College of Public & Community Service (CPCS), you are encouraged to attend a CPCS admission session, preferably before applying. They are offered on Tuesdays at 9:00 a.m. and Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m., all year round in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Please call 617.287.6000 for specifics.

Honors Program

If you are interested in the University Honors Program, which offers curricular enrichments to academically talented students, be sure to check "Yes" next to the appropriate question under the Additional Information section of the application. Selecting "Yes" ensures that you will receive a mailing with detailed information about the program and an application form; it does not however admit you to the program. If you need additional information, call the Honors Program Office at (617) 287-5520.

Directions for Student Potential (DSP)

If you are seeking admission to the Directions for Student Potential (DSP) program, be sure to check "Yes" next to the appropriate question under the Additional Information section of the application. Selecting "Yes" ensures that your application will be reviewed for the program; it does not however guarantee admission.
Note that this college preparatory program is offered only in the summer and is open only to Massachusetts' residents who are willing to enter the College of Liberal Arts as beginning freshmen in the fall.

Those interested in teaching careers

If you are interested in a teaching career, you must seek admission to the College of Liberal Arts (CLA), College of Science & Mathematics (CSM), or the Exercise & Health Science (EHS) department of the College of Nursing & Health Sciences. By selecting a major and successfully completing the university's Teacher Education program, you can receive a "Provisional Educator Certification of Eligibility with Advanced Standing" in elementary (1-6), middle (5-9), and secondary (9-12) education.

New England Regional Student Program

If you are interested in enrolling in a major not offered through public education in your home New England state, consider the New England Regional Student Program (NERSP). Students pay tuition 50 percent above the in-state rate. Be sure to check "Yes" next to the appropriate question under the Additional Information section of the application. For additional information about this program, check with your counselor or visit the New England Board of Higher Education's website.

Additional tips for the application

  • Before you start the online application, please be sure to check Application Deadlines.
  • Please read about admissions requirements that are necessary to complete your application for admission. Submit all additional application requirements to the Undergraduate Admissions at the address below. Please include your name, address, date of birth, and social security number (optional) on all materials sent to our office.
  • Help is available for the online application by following the appropriate links on the application or by calling 617-287-6000.
  • Use your browser's "Back" button or function to go to a previous page in your application.
  • Complete all required fields, denoted by an asterisk (*).
  • Use proper (mixed) case when supplying information for proper nouns, such as your name. Proper case refers to capitalizing the first letter of each word.
  • Once your application has been submitted, you cannot make corrections to it online. Please review your application carefully before you submit. You should contact Undergraduate Admissions for instructions on how to make corrections to a submitted application.
