Safety is number one at UMass Boston. Period.

The University of Massachusetts Boston campus and its environs are especially safe and secure. The campus is self-contained on a peninsula on Dorchester Bay, where the campus police maintain high visibility.
The Department of Public Safety is committed to creating and maintaining a safe and secure environment for the university community. UMass Boston campus police officers are on duty 24 hours a day, year-round. They patrol the university and adjacent roads in marked police vehicles, on police bicycles, and on foot. Additionally, the department assists the campus community with:
- escort services
- public speaking
- motor vehicle assistance (including battery assists and lockouts)
- lost and found
- notary public services, by appointment
