Academic Advising and Support

A number of academic support and advising services are available to UMass Boston students both through their major departments and also centrally through the Office of Academic Support Services.

One Stop UMass Boston

The University Advising Center is responsible for advising students in the Colleges of Liberal Arts, Science and Mathematics, and Management who have not decided their major course of study. This advising process begins with orientation and continues until a student has chosen a major or concentration.

Even after students have chosen a major or concentration, University Advising Center staff are always available to discuss questions and concerns about college requirements and university regulations.

Other Advising Center services, available to all students, include:

  • a skills assessment program
  • services for international students, including academic concerns and issues of immigration status
  • placements
  • study abroad programs in any of more than twenty countries

Academic Support Programs provides courses and tutoring designed to enable students to succeed in their studies. Its primary focus is on instruction and tutorials in subject content and in critical reading and writing.
