Intramural Rules & Eligibility
UMass Boston Intramural Sports Program Rules:
Eligibility
All students registered for the current academic period at UMass Boston are eligible for Intramural Sports. EXCEPTION: Student athletes may not participate in an equivalent intramural sport. See below.
Faculty and staff are eligible for Intramural Sports unless otherwise indicated.
Alumni and the general public are not eligible for Intramural Sports unless otherwise specified.
Student Athlete Eligibility
Student athletes are eligible for all intramural sports that are not the equivalent of their intercollegiate sport(s). To compete in the equivalent intramural sport, a student athlete must sit out at least one standard academic semester (fall or spring semester) after their last participation in that sport as an intercollegiate student athlete.
A student who practiced with an intercollegiate team during pre-season or non-traditional season but did not make the active roster or quit prior to the first regular season competition will be considered eligible for participation in the intramural equivalent of that sport, provided they are at least one academic semester removed from their last participation in that sport.
Registration:
Students must register for an intramural sport per the advertised instructions. Teams and individuals who fail to make the advertised deadline may not be permitted to participate. More information can be found on the sport pages.
Teams
Students are allowed to represent one team only per league / tournament. Once a player has competed in a scheduled contest, he/she may not transfer to another team.
Litigation:
Teams caught using ineligible players will be DISQUALIFIED from further participation in the event. ALL MEMBERS of the team will be suspended from intramural competition in any sport for a minimum of 1 semester.
Other rule violations, excessive unsportsmanlike behavior, etc. are subject to discipline at the discretion of the Intramural Program Manager.
