Rental Rates, Event Related fees and Insurance Requirements

 

This overview lists the criteria which determine rates for conferences, meetings and events held in the Campus Center. We employ two rates: a Standard Rate and a University Rate. The Campus Center staff strives to apply these rates fairly to all events held within the facility. Each year we assess and evaluate the rate criteria and the rate structure, your feedback is welcome. Please contact the Campus Center if you have questions about the rates or need assistance evaluating your program or event to determine if fees apply. On average 90% of the university events hosted in the Campus Center carry no fees for space or equipment.

No Fee

The program, meeting or event is an initiative of, and was created/developed by UMass Boston for the sole benefit of students, faculty and staff.

  • Audience: Event is primarily for the UMass Boston faculty, staff and students, not open to the public or non-university guests.
  • Funding Source: Event is supported entirely by university funds.
  • Partnership: The event is an initiative of a UMass Boston department or student group and is not being planned or supported through a partnership with an outside organization.

University Rate

The program, meeting or event is an initiative of UMass Boston, was created/developed by UMass Boston and involves external partnership, funding or guests. Fees are applied to University events when:

  • Audience: The event is not primarily for the university community and is open to non-university guests/attendees (through advertisement or invitation).
  • Funding Source: Event is supported by funds from outside the university (ex. grants, outside sponsorship, admission fees, registration charges, fundraisers, ticket sales, etc.).
  • Partnership & Space Access: Through partnership or collaboration the university department is providing a non-university organization shared access to space. Note: (Departments and student groups may not book space on behalf of a non-university groups and provide them with the University rate for non-university programs or initiative).

    >>AM Discount: Events concluding by 1pm will receive a 30 % discount off the listed rate***

Note: In order to obtain the University Rate: 1) UMass Boston representative must request the space. 2) UMass Boston representative must serve as the primary contact/planner for all event-related details. 3) All charges related to the event will be billed and covered by the UMass Boston department speed type.

This policy ensures that the University rate is fairly applied. If these criteria are not met, the Standard Rate applies.

Standard Rate

The program, meeting or event is an initiative of a private company, non-profit or individual. The following criteria apply to Standard Rate events:

  • Non-Profit: Non-profit 501-C3 organizations will receive a 10% discount off the Standard Rate.***
  • Small, Local, Community- based Non-profits, Local civic associations, local charities and community 501Cnon-profits will receive a 25% discount off the Standard Rate.
  • Employee/Alumnae - Employees/Alumni hosting a personal event (retirement party, wedding, family reunion, private reception, etc.) will receive a 15% discount ***

    >>AM Discount: Events concluding by 1pm will receive a 30 % discount off the listed rate***

***Space Only: Discount applies to space only. Events may also carry fees for equipment and staff such as staging, risers, dance floors, wireless AV systems, police details, etc.
