Chancellor Updates on Provost Search

I am pleased to inform you that the Search Committee for the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs has been formed. Professor Paul Tucker of the Art Department has agreed to serve as chair, and the search firm of Isaacson, Miller has been retained to assist the university with this search. An advertisement for the position will appear in The Chronicle of Higher Education of December 19, 2008.
Next week Bud Moseley and Kristin Demong, vice presidents of Isaacson, Miller, will be on campus to gain the best sense of stakeholders’ concerns about and visions for this leadership position. We invite you to consult the schedule of open meetings below and take the opportunity to meet with these consultants.
Attached is a list of the members of the search committee. As you will see, the committee is a large and representative group that includes distinguished members of our university community. I am most grateful for their willingness to serve, and I have every confidence that the search will bring us a new provost of exceptional talent, energy, and readiness to provide significant leadership in academic affairs for years to come.
I also invite you to contact Chair Paul Tucker at paul.tucker@umb.edu to share your thoughts as to qualities, abilities, and experiences most needed in our new provost.
Assistant Chancellor Theresa Mortimer will serve as faculty liaison from my office to the committee. The committee and my office will keep you informed about the progress of the search. All members of the university community will have opportunities to meet applicants invited to campus to interview for the position.
