Memo

DATE: September 10, 2004
TO: The University Community
FROM: Chancellor J. Keith Motley

SUBJECT: Urban Connections Survey and Forum

Are you on the Map? (logo)Are you on the Map? If you connect to the community through your UMass Boston teaching, research or service, we want to hear from you, and we want you to SAVE THE DATE of Friday, October 22, 2004, from noon to 4 p.m., for the Urban Connections Forum.

To promote our Urban Mission Coordinating Committee and our Community Outreach Partnership Center grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, UMB is launching an initiative to inventory our community-related activities. The information we gather will help us create a Community Resource Center and assess our efforts in implementing the University's Urban Mission.

As part of this campaign, we are asking faculty and staff to tell us where and how they work with communities. The answers will help us develop a digital map of UMass Boston’s campus-community collaborations, which will be unveiled at the forum on October 22, 2004, from noon to 4 p.m. in the Campus Center ballroom.

We hope the entire campus community will participate and join the campaign by filling out a survey of UMB-related community activities. Please look for the survey soon in your mailbox so we can PUT YOU ON THE MAP!

Please return the surveys by September 17 to Molly Flavin in the Office of Service Learning & Community Outreach, c/o Student Life, Third Floor, Campus Center. For more information contact Joan Arches (joan.arches@umb.edu) or John Ciccarelli (john.ciccarelli@umb.edu).
