Commencement 2008 will be held on Friday, May 30th on the front lawn of the Campus Center. For our graduates, faculty participation in the Commencement celebrations will enhance the honor they feel in marking their achievement. Also, a large faculty presence is a public testimony to our University’s commitment to their success.
The academic procession is one of the oldest university traditions and it is widely viewed as a symbol of our collective dedication to the development of knowledge and academic inquiry. You are all invited to be a part of our academic procession.
If you do not presently own academic regalia, it can be purchased or rented from University Cap & Gown Company, 486 Andover Street, Lawrence, MA 01843. You may call them at 978-686-4566 to place an order or download the form here.
If you intend to be part of our academic procession, please arrive by 8:30 a.m. to robe and line up. Robing will take place in the Harbor Gallery on the plaza level of McCormack Hall. (Coffee and light breakfast fare will be served.) The academic procession will begin at 9:30 a.m. We ask that you march in the entire procession with your colleagues and proceed directly to the stage only if you have mobility issues that require you to do so.
Also, it would be very helpful for our Commencement Planning Committee to know in advance how many faculty members will be marching. Please RSVP to events@umb.edu by May 23rd.
Please note that parking for Commencement will be restricted. All faculty and staff (except those with handicapped plates or placards) are to park in University Lot D in order to better accommodate our graduates and their guests.
Thank you and we look forward to seeing you on May 30th!
