Shelby Grossman is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Government at Harvard University. Her research focuses on the political economy of sub-Saharan Africa, particularly on the role of the state in business transactions in West Africa.  She has done research in Nigeria, Liberia, and Cote d'Ivoire.  Prior to coming to Harvard, she worked with human rights organizations in Liberia and Nigeria.
