Hewitt has conducted research projects on issues of youth, racism, multiculturalism and more recently migration and the sociology of religion in Europe. He recently completed his work as scientific coordinator of an international social research program on the re-emergence of religion as a social force in Europe, funded by New Opportunities for Research Funding Co-operation in Europe (NORFACE), and is now developing research in Massachusetts on the role of entrepreneurialism in immigrant integration strategies.
